Lions Youth of the Year 2017

On Wednesday evening 22nd February, six of our senior students participated in the Lions Youth of the Year Public Speaking Competition. The six students each underwent a 30 minute gruelling interview with three Judges in the morning at school and in the evening presented a five minute speech on a topic of their choice. They were also required to respond to two, two minute impromptu topics. These topics were “What would you do if you were Prime Minister of Australia for the day?” and “Should a Plebiscite be conducted on the issue of Gay Marriage?” All students are to be commended on their wonderful speeches and responses. You were all very brave and impressive.

Our School Captain, Blake Batchelor took out the prize for the “Best Overall Speech” on the night. Blake (aka …. “The Batchelor”) captivated the audience with his critique of Reality TV. Blake was also the winner of the North Bundaberg Lions Club Division. Well done Blake!

Angela Elliott was the winner of the Moore Park Lions Club Division and she delivered a very powerful and emotive speech on the battle our Australian Farmers are facing with the drought. A wonderful effort indeed Angela.

Both Angela and Blake will now both progress to the Zone final being held on Saturday 4th March. We wish them both the best as they compete in the next round. Watch this space for more information.

Bundaberg North Lions Club hosted the 2017 Zone Final of the Lions Youth of the Year Quest at the St Mary's Centacare Community Centre in Bundaberg on the 4th of March 2017. The participants representing our local Lions area clubs and schools all performed remarkably and our judges where very thoroughly impressed by the quality of their presentation interviews and public speaking abilities. The Zone winner for the Bundaberg region was Dayna Williams from St Lukes Anglican School and representing Hinkler Lions Club. The Public Speaking Award went to Camryn Pegg from Kepnock State High School and representing Bargara Lioness Club. We congratulate all of the entrants on reaching the Zone Final and wish Dayna the best of luck in representing Hinkler Lions and our region at the District final on the 25th March 2017 on the Sunshine Coast.
