Bundaberg North State High School is proud to continue the Sports Performance Program in 2025. With a rich tradition of sporting excellence, our school remains committed to building on this legacy by providing students with greater opportunities to succeed. The program aims to foster excellence in attendance, behaviour, community engagement, academic performance, and social connectedness.
Rugby League Program
The Bundaberg North SHS Rugby League Program is a school-based sports development initiative that provides students with the opportunity to enhance their rugby league skills, fitness, teamwork, and leadership. The program includes specialised HPE classes, structured training sessions, competitive gameplay, and access to both school and representative competitions.
Launched in 2024, the program has already seen immediate success, with increased participation across our rugby league teams. In 2025, we aim to continue expanding the program to create even more opportunities for students.
To strengthen the identity and culture of the program, the Crushers name and logo have been introduced in 2025. This branding honours North Bundaberg's deep-rooted connection to the sugar cane industry—a cornerstone of our community for generations. Like the powerful cane crushers that drive our region, our athletes represent strength, resilience, and teamwork, striving to overcome challenges and achieve success.
The Rugby League Program is open to all Bundaberg North SHS students who are passionate about rugby league and dedicated to both personal and athletic development. The program caters to players of all experience levels—from beginners to advanced athletes—and provides opportunities to train, compete, and grow both on and off the field. Students in the program also gain access to an exclusive rewards system that recognises commitment and achievement.
From Semester 2 of Year 7, students will be selected by program coordinators and placed in a specialised HPE class that offers greater opportunities to develop skills, knowledge of the game, and understanding of the lifestyle needed to succeed as an athlete. Students not selected in this class will need to then apply to be invited into the program and will need to adhere to the below criteria.
